Brophy Bro

Stopped by for a light quick meal in Santa Barbara on the way home from Solvang.. It was a little hard to find considering that the back of the restaurant was undergoing construction when I went.. but it was all cool and dandy when I found it.

The place looks like any other seafood joint that you’ll find by the pier. Inside seating as well as outside around the perimeter of the restaurant on the second floor.. (the first floor I think is more fast food style? I’m not sure.. they weren’t open yet when I went)  Very open and a great view of all the boats in that little harbor.

Since I was going for a light meal I ordered the…

Image

HOLY SMOKES.. mouthful of clams in every spoonful. No joke. Even though its clam chowder, you won’t get that overly heavy creaminess. The star of the chowder is in fact the clams and not the potato like a lot of places. Must try!

Image

If only the oysters shells were cleaned better before serving. It was almost as if the oysters were just lightly rinsed over water before cracking open because there were a ton of concentrated black dirt that got all over my hands when I was trying to enjoy my oysters effortlessly. Don’t get me wrong.. the oysters were deliciously fresh. Just got annoyed of constantly have to wipe my hands after touching the oysters.

Image

One of their recommended dishes.. and after trying it.. I recommend it as well! When it comes to battered fried fish I am quite skeptical since there is nothing I hate more about food than over battered fried food. (fair food anyone?) But Brophy Bro does it right. The batter is so light its almost tempura like, but its not! I bet you this is one way to get kids to eat fish!

Image

While you eat, if you decide to sit at the patio then this is the view… Sail Boats! Its so calming because the surrounding area wasn’t crazy busy with a ton of tourist. This was actually away from the crowd which was nice.

Image

And after your delicious meal, you can go take a walk down this beautiful path.

Definitely stopping by again next time i’m in SB bro~

Aug Loves

Oh man.. August has passed already?! Insane! I have gotten a bit busy with work, vacation, and school starting so I haven’t been able to post. I am back today though with my August favorites! Even though its late but better then nothing.

I haven’t been using or venturing out to many new products this month since the weather has been rising in LA. Weird.. global warming! Our seasons are totally out of whack. Its been nice and cool during the whole summer until the end of August and BAM went from mid 70′s to 80 to 90 to 100′s.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

If you have read one of my earlier post on what I packed on my vacation then you’ll be familiar with this combo. Mac’s Styled Blush and Nars Orgasm Illuminator. Together these two give you the prettiest golden glow on your cheeks. I have been in love with this and have been wearing it since mid August.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mascara’s are one thing that has been getting used up in my collection one at a time. Since I’m not allowing myself to buy new ones until all the ones I own are used up, I have just been picking up mascara that have been neglected in my drawer. The Maybelline One by One has never been a favorite of mine. Not saying that its a bad mascara but its not one that WOWs me (i much prefer the falsies). I have been really liking this one actually. Mainly because it goes really well with the lighter make-up look that I have been opting for. So if you like the more natural separated lash look then go ahead and give this a try. Holds well throughout the day and I haven’t really experienced any smudging and my makeup is on for 12+ hours a day!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Blotting paper. This has been a MUST. With the weather being so hot I have noticed that my face is getting more and more oily as the day goes on. I have tried many other blotting paper but ultimately, I have to say that the Clean & Clear one is my favorite. I feel as though my oil is really getting blotted and it mattifys(?) my face. Best one in the market. If you guys know of one thats better then definitely let me know.

nature valley

Random Food Favorite of this month is Nature Valley’s granola bar. I use to eat these ALL the time when I was in high school. But too much of one this will eventually get boring. I haven’t had one in a couple of years and recently I discovered new flavors. Say what!? Peanut butter flavored.. drool.. You guys know I love peanut and almond butter so this was delicious! It just reminds me of how good these bars are so I have been craving them for the second half of august. Its not the most healthiest bar considering that it doesn’t provide much protein or fiber but needless to say its a good and delicious snack to have in your purse.

Summer Trip – Skin Care / Body Care

Part 2 of my summer trip series!

Since we have covered the Makeup department, lets move over to the skin care. When traveling you want to bring products that would work with your skin. I mean, whats worse then to have a major skin breakout during your holiday right? So trying new products out during a trip is never a good idea. Well.. I pack products that I know would work, BUT I also pack samples that I haven’t had the chance to try yet. I sound super hypocritical right now I know. When traveling, I find it so tempting and convenient to bring all those samples thats just sitting in your drawer. I mean why not? Their light and disposable after use.

SELF RESTRAINT! Find a balance. For the basics such as face wash, toner and moisturizer I would bring my usual products. I would go through my samples and see what additional things I want to try and bring those along as well. Even if your skin starts acting up after first use, you can instantly return to your trusted products.

ImageSkin care – Regular Products:

Dior Hydra Life Eye Cream

BioDerma (in the clear bottle)

Clean&Clear Acetone (shiseido bottle)

King Olive Acne Serum (Green Roller Ball)

Queene Helene Mint Julep mask & Dior Hydra Life Moisturizer (in the contact case)

Skin care - Samples to try:

L’Oreal Youth Code Dark Spot Correcting Serum

Miracle Skin Body 20

Holika Holika Water March Moisture Full Cream

Sircuit Skin Molecular Mist

Image

SKIN CARE - Samples To Try:

Origins Checks and Balancesfoams up really nicely and feels all velvety on the skin. Can’t say if I really like it since I haven’t used it enough. Doesn’t break me out though so thats a plus!

Benefit Refined Finish Face Polish

Benefit Foamingly Clean Facial WashIts actually very very similar to the Origins Checks and Balance. Same texture when dispensed and same texture after lathering it up.

ImageHAIR CARE - Normally for hair and body care, I just load up on the samples. My skin and hair is rarely sensitive to new products so I am able to gorge myself in these sample heaven!

Lush Seanik Shampoo BarLove taking my shampoo bar for travel. Less liquids to bring! Cleanses well but it does take a couple use to get the hang of it since it does take some skills to get it up to the lather I want. You do have to bring some conditioner because since this is a clarifying shampoo your hair will need to be reconditioned which is why I bring a bunch of conditioning samples with me.

John Frieda Collection Root Awakening

Her Styler Vitamine E Hair Serum

Etude House Silk Scarf - This was mehh. Nothing too impressive.

Kerastase Reflection Chroma Riche Hair MaskThis was really nice. Used this after spending the whole day at the beach in the ocean and it just turned my hair from a knotted mess to silky smooth.

CHI Silk Infusion (in the Creative sensation bottle for travel use)

Dove Go Fresh Raspberry and Lime - Not really a hair care product but this was my shower gel sample that I got in HK last summer. It smells DELICIOUS! i wish they have this scent in the states.

Image

BODY CARE: Other than my face sunblock, I can bring whatever I want. My biggest fear is putting regular sunblock on my face and having it clog my pores and cause breakouts.

Banana Boat Sunscreen SPF30I actually ended up not using this. This was just more for backup purposes because I much prefer the spray on kind that my friend brought. If you’re going to be out in the sun the whole day, opt for SPF 50+ and reapply throughout the day. Don’t want to be burnt like a tomato now do we?

Nivea Express HydrationKind of small for a lotion to bring, but theres actually quite a lot of product in there thats good for probably 3 full body uses. I don’t use it on my whole body so there was more than enough for the trip.

Shiseido Urban Environment Sunblock SPF35Surprise Surprise that this is the sunblock I would bring for my face. This is probably the only sunblock I would use on my face.

Aloe Vera Soothing Gel - If you’re going to be in the sun the whole day, another thing that you must get is some type of after sun lotion that can help cool and soothe your skin. Aloe Vera is probably your best option. It feels soooo nice on the skin. It soothes and moisturizes. Great on sensitive skin types so you don’t have to worry about it irritating your skin. You will regret it if you don’t bring it.

Etude House Aloe Moistful - An aloe vera for your face since I’m paranoid with using body products on the face. I just feel that products that is meant for your body is not as gentle as the ones that are meant for your face.

Bamboo UV+ Color CareA UV protection spray for your hair. Sounds perfect for being outdoors but I forgot to use it.

Episencial Soothing Cream

Image

Everything gets placed in this little pouch. Its not that little but it sure fits a heck of a lot of products in it. One of my old roommates just came into my room and gave it to me one day. It might not be the cutest but it sure is useful. I love it! I’ve seen similar ones at TJ Maxx.

Image

Skin care and body care are separated. Some products that I’m scare will leak or bust open is placed in the Forever 21 baggie.

ImageFolds nicely in half. Not too big not too small but fits an insane amount of stuff.

Target – Fashion Haul

I absolutely LOVE Target. Target > Walmart ANYDAY. I don’t generally buy anything from their fashion department thought. Except their V-Necks which are my FAVE. So on my last trip to Target, I’ve come out surprisingly with a couple items from Target that I thought were SUPER cute and Very affordable.

Long Sleeve Heart Sweater

Image

I have fallen in love with pullover sweater this past winter and I’m pretty sure I’m going to continue it this coming fall/winter season. This sweater is quite soft and doesn’t feel like its super cheap quality. Its thick enough to keep me warm but thin enough to be used as a layering piece without it looking too bulky. $22.99 http://www.target.com/p/mossimo-supply-co-juniors-long-sleeve-heart-sweater-cream/-/A-14560274

 V Neck Tee

Image

I own probably about 8 of these. Of course not the same color. These are by far my favorite V Necks ever. They are soft, washes well, doesn’t get washed out of shape like Forever 21 does. It has a cute little front pocket that adds a little something to the tee so its not just a plain V Neck. Fits very nicely. Not too tight and not too loose. Extremely comfortable and for the regular price of $9.00 you really can’t beat it. And right now its on sale for $5.00! YES! I got two staple colors, Black and White because I don’t have these colors! Target releases the colors by season so you might see a color now, but in a couple of months they won’t carry them anymore! http://www.target.com/p/mossimo-supply-co-juniors-v-neck-tee-assorted-colors/-/A-11751648#prodSlot=medium_1_5&term=tee

Khalea Combat Boots – Cognac

Image

This is probably the most Exciting purchase of the bunch. I have been wanting the Steve Madden Troopa boots in Brown Leather (picture below). I was so close to buying it last season but decided that I will wait and see if I see anything else I like. If I can’t then I was definitely getting it this coming season. Also I was hoping that it will go on sale since it retails for $99.00. Not bad, but I mean, who doesn’t want to buy things at a discount? I have tried on so many different bran

ds that have shoes that are similar in

Image

style but they all fit sort of weird and look a bit wide, none were the perfect fit. Until… TADA! I found these perfect fitting shoes at Target 15min before the store was closing. Saw them, Tried them, LOVED them. They actually fit even better than the Steve Madden ones so instantly it went into myshopping cart. Best part? Its on sale right now for $28.00

Summer Trip – Makeup

For the Summer travel series.. lets start with makeup!

Image

I am determined to travel as light as possible on this trip. Mainly because I’m not going for that many days so there is no need to overpack. With makeup, I have placed everything in a clear plastic cosmetic baggie that was a freebie from Shiseido. I chose a clear bag because if I’m going to be sharing a room with other girls, most likely their going to bring their makeup as well. To prevent me from sprawling all my products on the counter I can just leave everything in the bag and not have to take it out because I see everything inside already! Saving space and time from when it comes time to pack and leave.

Image

  • MAC – Style Frost blush (since we’re going to be out in the sun, I wanted a more orangey/coral blush)
  • NYC blushable Creme Stick – Urban Spice (bronzing stick to fake that bronzed look before I get my own natural tan. ahah I’m actually not sure if this was discontinued)
  • Lioele – Beyong the Solution BB Cream (didn’t want to take a foundation with me because I probably won’t want to wear any. But this BB cream will work for day and night because theres no SPF. During the day I will have to put on something with higher SPF anyway so bringing a BB cream/Foundation with SPF in it wouldn’t do much good as to how versatile the product will be.
  • PUR – 4-1 Pressed mineral Makeup – Light (Instead of bringing my regular powder, bringing a mineral powder or powder foundation is great for when you’re on vacation. It gives you the option of being lazy and not have to fuss over your face makeup in the morning. This PUR mineral face makeup gives good enough coverage to cancel out redness and minimize the looks of pores. If you want fuller coverage then simply use a concealer with it and TA-DA light make up for a beach day.
  • NARS – Orgasm Illuminator(Gorgeous highlighter to use with a sun kissed complexion.)
  • Physicians Formula- Conceal RX – Natural Light (Since both my face makeup is not very high in coverage, of course I need to compensate by bringing a higher coverage concealer for when I want to be more made up … like for dinner or something)

Image

  • Physicians Formula Eye BOOSTER Eyeliner( Pretty self explanatory, my fave liquid liner right now so of course it would be my eyeliner of choice to bring on a trip.)
  • Covergirl – Liquilineblast – Black - (For the most dramatic eye look, a pencil liner is a must)
  • Majolica Majorca – Lash Enamel Glamorous Volume On Mascara – Black ( since I’m going somewhere thats going to be hot hot HOT! I am definitely brining a mascara that will stay put)
  • Urban Decay – Eyeshadow Primer Potion
  • Glitter Liner –  (just for fun, might not even use it. BUT if I get the chance to use it on a night out then I definitely will.)
  • Sonia Kashuk – Tongue in Cheek – 15  (used for a more sultry night time look)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

  • Too Cool for School – Party Time (I bought this in Korea and I have no idea what the color name is. But I love this for day time and just bring with me for on the go because there is the cream shadow base on the bottom and two shadow colors that I use on a daily basis on top. Its compact so its perfect for traveling.)

Toocoolforschool_1

  • MAC – Mineralize Eyeshadow – Fresh & Mint(Fun colors that can be pulled off during vacationing by the beach with a pop of blue/pink on the lower lash line. )

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So that concludes the Summer trip makeup that I will be bringing on my trip. What products do you bring? Got any good suggestions? Let me know! Next post will be on Skincare!

Summer trip

When do you guys go on your summer trip? Beginning, middle, or end? I personally like going at the end of summer probably because thats when my family usually goes.. and because its my birthday month!

Usually we take a family trip to Vegas because 1. I live in LA 2. I’m chinese so my family like to gamble! We’ve been going to Vegas for my birthday for as long as I can remember. Funny enough though, my 21st birthday was the last time we went as a family along with my friends and thats gotta be one of the most fun Vegas trips I’ve had.

Image

For this year though, I had the option of continuing the tradition and do a Vegas trip again or do something more adventurous, more out of my comfort zone. I’m the type that likes familiarity. The unknown kinda scares me. BUT I have decided this year to go to Los Cabos, Mexico.

Image

Originally I intended this to be a girls trip with a bunch of my girl friends but as we’re all grown up now and have responsibilities most of the girls were unable to go. So its only going to be my best friend and one of my cousins. Even though its only going to be the 3 of us, its still going to be a blast :D

Image

Doesn’t that just looks ahmazing?! I can’t wait to be able to relax and just chill by the poolside. I have a insane schedule for the next coming months and I’m going to take advantage of this trip to relax because the next time I’m going to actually have a break is probably in Jan. Seems so far from now but I bet its going to fly by.

So, for the next couple of post I’m going to go off on the whole Summer Vacation theme and show you guys what I’m bringing with me on this trip (make up, travel essentials, carryon, clothes, etc) what ever comes to mind when I’m packing.

Have you guys taken your Summer Trip yet? What are some helpful traveling tips?

Tender Greens

Fresh Fresh Fresh!

I have been wanting to give tender greens a try but sadly there is none around my area. I wish there was. Their salads are humongous so it will definitely fill you up. You can either get their specialty salads or pick and choose.. kind of like chipotle? You can choose your meat which determines the price and choose what kind of salad you want…. (for full review click on any of the pictures!)

** So if you don’t know I am a huge yelper. I want to incorporate some restaurant reviews for you guys so let me know if this format is good.. where I just link it to the yelp page or would you prefer me to just post the whole review. Don’t want to be repetitive so let me know!**

Empty Products

One of my favorite blog posts to read or youtube videos to watch are products that have been used up. After actually finishing up a product, then are you really able to give a full review on how a product is. And the ultimate question that comes along with it.. will you repurchase it? Periodically I will throw out since products I’ve used up post with my finals thoughts on the products. For now.. lets start with the skin care stuff thats been used up in the past couple of weeks.

Image

Shiseido Urban Environment UV Protection Cream – Face/Boby SPF 35 PA+++ 50mL- $30

Shiseido is probably one of my favorite skincare brand. My mom has used it since I was little and is all she uses so being her daughter I am a little bit biased I would say. I have tried products from them that I have not liked, but for the most part Its been mostly Hits.

My favorite sunscreen would have to be this one. #1 It doesn’t have that nasty sunscreen smell which I absolutely despise! #2 My skin soaks it up acting just like how a moisturizer would. Doesn’t leave your skin sticky like how some sunscreens will. #3 Has a decent SPF.. AND it contains PA+++. When I first bought this, this was probably one of the FIRST products in the states about 1.5 years ago that had  any PA level protection let alone PA+++. Of course now, we have a lot more options. I believe they no longer carry the SPF 35.. but its SPF 40 now. The highest SPF offered is SPF 50.

This products doesn’t break me out. Doesn’t leave my face looking like a grease ball (but then again I do have normal skin). They also have the oil-free version but I’m not a big fan of that consistency because its a lot more watery and not as nice as this one. Overall its my perfect face sunblock out there.

Active Ingredients: OCTINOXATE -4.9% / OCTOCRYLENE – 3.0% / ZINC OXIDE 0 6.7%

This product has already been repurchased (:

Image

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion 30mL/1.0oz- $17

There are so many spot treatments out there thats its insane to think that one is a miracle worker. When you first switch over, the first couple of times might seem like it but then as time goes, the immediate effect of it fades. This was the result of this Drying Lotion. It was highly raved and well deserved to be raved about. The very first time I used this, instantly the next day the inflammation has gone down tremendously. But over the last couple of weeks the results were not as instant since like all products my skin became immune to it in a way.

There are two parts to this product. The liquid and sediments on the bottom. Don’t shake the bottle and mix the two together because its suppose to be separate. You just dip the q-tip in to the bottom until you hit the pink sediments and you dab it onto the breakout. It will leave your face with some pink patches but its okay because you’ll be home sleeping anyways.

Depending on your break out, it might sting a little bit but its not bad. It does smell like strong alcohol and sulfur since both are in the product. I have found that it effectively dries out the mini break outs pretty fast, but it doesn’t do much to cystic acne. Those are just stupid stubborn things that refuses go away with product use (I haven’t found a spot treatment for cystic acne, so if you guys have any recommendations let me know!) I’ve read other people saying that it dries out their skin, but I haven’t had any troubles with it.

Ingredients: Isoprophyl Alcohol / Deionized Water / Calamine / Camphor / Colloidal / Sulfur / Salicylic Acid / Glycerin / Zinc Oxide / Titanium Dioxide / Talc

I will probably repurchase this product in the future.

Image

Clean&Clear deep cleaning astringent – sensitive skin – $4

I bought this at Target looking for the cheapest toner/astringent I can find because on e of the mask I was using required me to remove it with toner/astringent. I was not about the use the toner I was using at that time to remove it because it was just a waste. This was probably the cheapest one I can find to do the job.

I have been using it as a regular toner as well and I don’t think it does much in clearing up my skin department but it does remove any excess dirt or makeup that your cleanser failed to remove. It smells like alcohol but doesn’t burn your face of anything unless you got some really painful breakouts. For the price and size, you can’t really beat it.

Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (0.5%) Inactive: Water, Alcohol, Glycerin, Isoceteth-20, PEG-32, Sodium Citrate, Fragrance, Propylene Glycol, Dimethicone Propyl PG-Betaine, Benzophenone-4, Algae Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Denatonium Benzoate, Blue 1

I would probably repurchase this in the future.

July Conscious Box

ImageI have been a long time subscriber of Birch Box.. the beauty monthly subscriptions. But after a bout a year I realize that it was really fun receiving the box but after I probably only use about 1/4 of the samples I receive because I’m always scared that my skin will act negatively towards the products.

So.. I stopped and now after a couple months I wanted to find something that was more on the food side. Not gourmet food or snacks but healthier food options. Since going to a health food store can be sooo overwhelming that being able to be introduced to new healthy snacks and products sounds like a really great idea. So after researching I have decided to subscribe with Conscious Box for $19 a month. (which is on the cheaper side compared to the other health conscious box out there)

For my first month, here are the items that I received. Tried out some and some are still waiting to be tried and tested.

I am really excited to try the Last Round Hangover Drink and the Bottle Bright cleaner since I have a tumbler thats just stained by coffee and tea.

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Its still too early to tell if this is worth it or if I recommend it since this was my first box. So you’re gunna have to wait for a couple more months until I make my final judgement. but I can’t wait for my August box to be delivered because its like christmas everytime I receive one of these boxes!

Lush grease lightning

Grease Lightning

My skin goes through phases where it will be clear for one week and starts breaking out the next. It has a mind of its o

wn. I have tried so many .. I mean SOOO many different types of spot treatment that I feel like my skin is growing immune to each product quicker and quicker. I usually have two different ones on hand just so I can switch between the two. The last one that I finished was the Mario Badescu spot treatment. (Which I would probably repurchase in the future).

Grease Lightning

So it comes time to start researching for a new one. With this in mind, I have already heard of great reviews on the Lush grease lightning spot treatment. It’s made of primarily tea tree oil. Which I have tried before as well. I have found that tea tree oil works at its own pace. It’s not something that will zap everything away overnight.

After the first couple uses of this, I didn’t really think it was that great of a product. Honestly I didn’t see it doing much for my skin. But I have been using it for about a month now, and I have to say, it’s a bit slower at getting rid of your breakouts, but it leaves no scar. Really. I didn’t think too much about it until today. Now that I really think about it, the last couple of times that I’ve used this for breakout, my skin has healed with close to no scar compared to normal (I scar really easily. Regardless if I pop it or leave it). The packaging is nice because it does have a pump dispenser so its a lot more sanitary. The product is a clear watery gel consistency. It claims that it will prevent break outs. I’m not too sure about that because I still break out quite regularly . But of course, most of my breakouts are probably due to hormones or lack of sleep.

Wouldn’t hurt to give this a try if your in the market looking for a new acne spot treatment.
